As in all other regions of the world, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has long considered faith-based organisations (FBOs) in Africa to be highly relevant partners in the work it does on the continent. Over the years they have become engaged in improving efforts to reduce maternal mortality, achieving an end to violence against women, building more gender-conscious communities and in initiatives that support the education of the girl child.
