CARMMA 2013

Campaign on Accelerated Reduction of Maternal Mortality

Since CARMMA, the Campaign on Accelerated Reduction of Maternal Mortality in Africa was launched in 2009, 37 African countries have launched the initiative and more are preparing to do so. Continentally, the campaign has made tremendous progress since those early days, with several countries adopting National Road Maps and developing Strategic Health Development Plans. Following on from the CARMMA report published in 2012, this latest edition provides an update on the maternal mortality rate in the countries that have implemented CARMMA and the steps that are being taken to rectify high maternal mortality ratios.

Final RHCS CCP Assessment Report

After years of responding to ad hoc requests from countries for technical assistance and supplies, UNFPA developed the GPRHCS in 2008. After 3-5 years of UNFPA’s support for the development and implementation of national strategic plans, the former Sub Regional Office-Johannesburg began undertaking a review of countries’ progress to-date to understand their status and recommend appropriate direction.

ESA Position Paper on Post-shipment Testing of Condoms

Assessment of Comprehensive Condom Programming (CCP) and reproductive health commodity security (RHCS conducted) conducted by the UNFPA Eastern and Southern Africa sub-Regional Office in May/June 2011, indicated that a total of 13 countries would require post-shipment testing of condoms irrespective of their being sourced from pre-qualified suppliers.
