International Youth Day

In 1999, the UN General Assembly designated 12 August as International Youth Day. It is an annual celebration of the role of young women and men as essential partners in promoting human rights and development. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges and hardships facing the world’s youth.

Nelson Mandela International Day

Nelson Mandela International Day 2018 marks 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela. The Centenary is an occasion to reflect on his life and legacy, and to follow his call to “make of the world a better place.”

Nelson Mandela embodied the highest values of the United Nations. One hundred years after his birth, Nelson Mandela’s example of courage and compassion continue to inspire the world.

Menstrual Health Symposium

UNFPA East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) and partners are to convene the first regional symposium on menstrual health and management in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 28 to 29 May.

The purpose is to strengthen commitment to and build on the latest evidence base, to move from research to action, and to demonstrate innovative, sustainable and scalable models to address the needs of adolescent girls and women.
