Menstrual Health and Disability: Guidance note for practitioners

Publication date

29 January 2026

Developed collaboratively by the African Coalition for Menstrual Health, Liliane Fonds, and AFRIpads with technical oversight from UNFPA ESARO, this guidance note supports menstrual health practitioners in designing and implementing inclusive interventions tailored to the diverse needs of women and girls with disabilities. Grounded in a social and human rights model that focuses on removing societal barriers rather than fixing individual impairments, the guide equips practitioners with practical tools, evidence-based approaches, and key considerations to address the intersecting challenges of menstruation and disability. By offering specific recommendations such as the Twin-Track approach and co-design solutions with persons with disabilities, this resource strives to ensure that every menstruator can manage their health with dignity, autonomy, and inclusion.
