Training received by midwives at a midwifery skills lab has reduced maternal and neonatal deaths in Migori County, Kenya, with UNFPA support. Nurses and midwives make up 80 per cent of the health workforce in the country, and they are often the first health professionals that patients meet when they seek care. By sharpening midwives' skills in emergency obstetric care, they are averting deaths and disabilities.
