CARMMA (Campaign on Accelerated Reduction of Maternal Mortality in Africa), an initiative of the African Union Commission, was launched in 2009 to promote implementation of the Maputo Plan of Action. Since the launch of CARMMA under the theme "Africa Cares: Better reproductive health for women, children and adolescents by 2030", maternal mortality in Africa has dropped by almost 18%, yet more than 200,000 die needlessly each year. CARMMA Plus (2021-2030) marked a renewed commitment to realising the health SDGs and Agenda 2063. Here's how.
