The UNFPA East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO), in collaboration with WHO, is organizing a four day workshop to strengthen capacity on maternal death surveillance and response (MDSR). The workshop is being organized for 14 ESA countries which requested Technical Assistance for improved implementation of MDSR. It will provide a platform to share and to learn from different country experiences, discuss some of the challenges countries are grappling with to implement MDSR and outline steps for strengthening institutionalisation of MDSR.
The overall objective of the workshop is to facilitate regional learning and exchange and foster a common understanding and agreement on the strategic actions for the implementation of the MDSR in the ESA region.Moreover, it will review progress with implementation of MDSR in the ESA region.
