ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — African civil society organizations (CSOs) finalized their recommendations on ICPD beyond 2014, at the Africa Regional Conference on Population & Development after two days of intense deliberation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 26-27 September.
The CSO Meeting concluding document recognized African governments and development partners for the progress that has been made towards realization of the commitments of the ICPD Programme of Action (PoA), but stated that in spite of the gains, there were marked deficiencies in implementation. The CSO meeting was followed by a meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a regional group of 15 countries founded in 1975 to promote economic integration in the region.
