UNFPA and its Harmonization for Health in Africa (HHA) partners are to hold a Conference of Ministers of Health and Ministers of Finance in Tunisia to discuss the better use of available resources for health and to advocate for more resources, especially on the domestic front.
The conference, to be held in Tunis from 4-5 July and hosted by the Africa Development Bank, is entitled ‘Value for Money, sustainability and accountability in health: a new governance framework for Africa towards and beyond the MDGs’.
Several panel sessions at the conference will feature ministers and heads of agencies as panelists. There will be opportunities for countries to share their experiences of how to secure sufficient funding for strengthening health systems, increasing access to quality care and improving efficiency of utilizing resources in the health sector. This includes securing financing for Sexual and Reproductive Health, especially Maternal and Newborn Health towards the reduction of maternal deaths.
Each country attending is expected to be represented by a team of five participants comprising the ministers of finance and health, a member of parliament and representatives from the private sector.
