Commission on the Status of Women (58th Session)

The 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW58) will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work (agreed conclusions from the 55th session)

International Women's Day

This year's theme is “Equality for Women is Progress for All”.

The United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March during International Women’s Year, 1975. Two years later, in December 1977, the General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming a United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace to be observed on any day of the year by Member States, in accordance with their historical and national traditions.

International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting

Each year, International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation is observed to raise awareness about this practice. Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is a harmful practice and it violates the human rights of girls and women.
