International Conference on Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting

This international conference on female genital mutilation/cutting, organized by UNFPA, UNICEF and the Government of Italy, aims to consolidate global political commitment, galvanize national action, and plan specific strategies to build a broad-based movement to end female genital mutilation/cutting and related discriminatory practices in the next generation. This is in accordance with 2012 GA Resolution 67/146 on Intensifying global efforts for the elimination of female genital mutilations.

International Day of the Girl Child

This year is the second observance of International Day of the Girl Child, the theme of which is Innovating for Girls’ Education. The first Day was held last year, following the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 66/170, adopted in December 2011 in recognition of girls’ rights and the unique challenges they face around the world.

African Regional Conference on Population and Development and pre-conference events

24-25 September Youth Pre-conference 
Venue: UNECA Conference Centre, Addis Ababa: The youth pre-conference will bring together about 150 young people to discuss and consolidate their issues and position, and to ensure that young people across the African continent have coordinated, recognized representation and a voice at the regional conference and its follow up. The pre-conference will focus on four thematic areas: Education, Health, Employment and Inclusive Participation and Governance.
